Uber-comfortable Stool with Foam Gel Seat

Sore back? Stiff neck? If you hurt after a long session, it's time to upgrade your chair. The Crown Seating Performer Series Studio Stool's comfortable Serene gel foam seat provides ample cushioning, while its free-float backrest gives you continuous support when you lean forward. A seat groove eliminates pressure on your tailbone and multi-angle pelvic positioning reduces lower back strain. Bend forward and reach further without strain, thanks to this stool's improved balance point, and experience extreme stability, courtesy of its 5-leg powder-coated aluminum base. Complete with an adjustable foot ring and durable moisture-wicking fabric from Polartec, the Performer Series Studio Stool is a "must have" for your studio. And it's cheaper than a trip to the chiropractor.

Proper ergonomics are important

Like with any other physical activity, proper ergonomics are vital when working in your studio. In fact, arranging your gear incorrectly can cause health issues over time. The last thing you want is to have back problems. To prevent this, your gear should be placed at a comfortable height. You should be able to access your mixer or control surface with your wrists in a neutral position. The same goes for your keyboard and other gear. If you have to bend over or crane your body to reach something, it's not positioned correctly. We care about our customers here at Sweetwater, and we want you to stay healthy. Using a proper studio desk, along with a high-quality chair like the Performer Series Studio Stool, helps you reach your gear without straining your body.

Great for Musicians

Love this chair, very easy to assemble, no directions but easy enough to figure out.. if you have any issues go on Stealth Chair web site they have videos or you can talk to someone...the chair itself is very well constructed and heavy duty and comfortable easy to use the adjustments. Sweetwater has the best deal and great shipping on time/fast.

Well Made

Very good comfort, only unique thing is the V shaped seat which forces you to be careful when sitting down.
A different feel for sure, but quite comfortable for extended playing. Easy assembly, no tools required.

Amazing chair

I have been using an inexpensive desk chair in my studio. I have had many back issues over the years. This chair is so comfortable that I am able to sit in the studio for many hours with no back pain. I recommend this chair, best purchase I have made so far for comfortability.

Well-built with plenty of adjustments

I received the Crown performer series stool a little over a week ago. I had used several seating solutions over the past couple years and continue to look for the ultimate seating. I use the seat to practice mostly my banjo. I practice several hours a day and like a seat that would provide me with comfort and the ability to dangle my banjo in front of me while I play. Having back support is important as well. I had a regular wooden stool with no back support and that was bothering my back after a few months. I have used a folding chair with a back and do not want to rest the banjo on my lap. I also practice the guitar and like the foot bar to prop up my instrument while playing. I am 5 foot 9 inches and weigh 170 pounds. It seems like a 24-inch height for the seat is about right.

I heard about the Crown stool from a rep at Sweetwater and decided to give this solution a chance although the price was about double of anything else I had reviewed. The assembly was straight forward. I am blind and had no one to read instructions, so I just unloaded the box and started assembling the stool. There were a few extra pieces that I did not expect. There were two vertical posts for holding the seat, one is the size I expected and the second was longer. I used the shorter post. There were three glide selections, one with no wheels, one with smaller "regular sized" wheels, and one with larger wheels about 4 inches in diameter. I used the no wheel solution. The wheels just pull off and snap on. The foot rest slides on the vertical post and rotates to tighten or loosen for adjustment. The back has plenty of adjustment both up and down, forward and back, lock in place or just let it float. The seat is the most different than I have ever experienced. It looks like a saddle for a horse where you would think to put each leg on either side.

Positives:

My first impression of the stool is that it is well built. All the parts fit; the material is solid; and the stool is stable. The back rest is very comfortable with a mesh to allow for air circulation. It also has a nice cushion feel that supports my lower back. Plenty of adjustments up and down; back and forward, for a perfect fit. It can float or lock in place. I have locked the back rest down.

The foot rest is pretty simple and effective. Just loosen the center piece; slip it on the vertical post; adjust up or down; and then rotate the foot rest clock-wise to tighten in place. As the seat rotates 360 degrees, the foot rest is always available for use.

Cons:

It has taken me awhile to get accustomed to the seat. My first inclination was to straddle the seat like a saddle. That was not working and started to hurt after a while. Later I sat with my legs forward and still it felt a little awkward. I continued to make adjustments to the seat. I tilted the pitch of the seat forward and then back. I positioned myself forward on the seat and then further back. The back rest was able to be adjusted to support my lower back no matter where I positioned myself. I raised and lowered the seat. After using the chair for up to 2 hours at a time over a week, I am starting to get the adjustments to where I am comfortable.

The back rest supports my back as well as any chair I have used. The only recommendation is to reduce the width. The ends of the back rest restrict my arms as I am playing my banjo.

Conclusion:

This stool is well-built and stable. It is well constructed; solid; with infinite adjustments. The seat is unique in design and took me awhile to get it positioned to where I am comfortable. The back rest is a little different in design but has a great ability to support my lower back. I would recommend this stool for a studio or practice area. The stool is heavy and would not be something that would easily be moved for a performance.
