The Classic Twin-pickup U2, Reimagined

A mid-'50s Danelectro U2 will set you back a pretty penny — provided you can even get your hands on one. Fortunately for players today, the modern Danelectro 57 brings all the style, flair, and tone of the originals to a high-performance modern instrument. The Dano 57's center-blocked, semi-hollow construction and Vintage '50s Lipstick pickups give you the spank, chime, grit, and chunk of a real-deal vintage original. Tone toggling and voice tailoring are easily done using the 57's rugged 3-way switch and space-saving concentric volume/tone controls. Cream-buttoned Gotoh tuning machines, a U3 intonatable saddle bridge, and a dual-action truss rod give the modern '57 a leg up on a true '50s model.

A modernized classic

The Danelectro 57 oozes vintage U2 vibe and classic Dano style. This guitar's time-honored semi-hollowbody construction adds a rich resonance to leads and chords. Thanks to its spruce frame and inner center block, the 57 won't feed back as easily onstage as the OG — though it can certainly be coaxed into feedback territory for high-gain applications. The maple neck features a classic Coke Bottle headstock and a 14"-radius pau ferro fingerboard for high performance and a timeless look.

That Danelectro sound

The Danelectro 57's Vintage '50s Lipstick pickups pack, in ample supply, that one-of-a-kind Dano tone that has captured the imagination of so many guitarists over the last six decades. The result is a sound that truly stands alone — jangly, with a punchy low midrange and a treble kick. And with a 3-way pickup selector, plus stacked volume and tone controls for each pickup, you'll have a lot of options for dialing in your ideal tone for any track.

An iconic American brand

With their beloved quirky hollowbody designs, hardboard/plywood construction, and iconic Lipstick pickups, Danelectro's guitar designs are instantly recognizable. Among other innovations, Danelectro introduced the baritone guitar in 1956, and the electric sitar in 1967. From guitar gods Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck to Who bassist John Entwhistle (check out the bass solo on "My Generation") to country superstar Glen Campbell, Tom Petty lead guitarist Mike Campbell, and the ever-eclectic Wilco guitarist and solo artist Nels Cline, Danos have become staples in the guitar and bass arsenals of top artists in all genres. Now Danelectro is back again and better than ever in the 57; Sweetwater is proud to offer you this formidable lineup of iconic vintage-inspired instruments.

very cool dano

Really Cool take on the Dano U2 , I Love the upgraded Gotoh tuners and the Bridge and the Jade Green is killer in person it sounds fantastic with the lipstick pups and it seems the electronics have been improved , but.. the tone knob doesnt really have a decent sweep its all or nothing , but thats ok ,fingerboard says pao ferro , but its dark like rosewood, and the neck is really nice and comfy, i also have a DC12 in cherryburst that i love and its better than my Ric 12, go figure ,but yep the NEW Dano 57 Jade is a killer Guitar, grab one before their gone.

This thing is a lot of fun!!

This is a very interesting guitar. First, I love the history of the brand. I love the quirkiness to it. First impressions were of good quality. It feels well made. The neck is thin, but comfortable. I think the profile is historically accurate for Danelectros. The guitar is comfortable and fun to play. It is light to hold. The notes seem to jump off the guitar – I think because of the lipstick single coil pickups. The sound is different than a strat or tele. The notes seem slightly more individually clear and seem to jump out at you. The bridge pickup is very spanky – sounds nice clean or even better with a little dirt. The neck pickup is a little more generic sounding, but it sounds good clean or over driven. The middle position sounds great – it is wired in series – not parallel – so you get an almost humbucker type boost from the middle position. I can see why people say the tone is unique and cuts through a mix different than anything else. Looking inside, it seems well built. I could see eventually needing to change the 3-way switch – it is not the best quality. I could also see eventually needing to change the jack. But, both work for now. The pots seem good, but the tone pots are basically either on or off – there isn't much taper at all – which I think is historically accurate. The tuning machines feel good and hold tune well. The setup was good out of the box. Eventually, I will do a fret leveling, but it is very much playable as is. This guitar can handle blues, jazz, rock and roll, country – you name it. I got the Jade green – the color is great in person. The pictures don't quite do it justice. This thing is a lot of fun!
