Channel the Spirit of the ’60s

Hearkening back to 1960s-era Les Pauls, the Epiphone Les Paul Standard ’60s brims with vintage character and legendary rock ‘n’ roll vibe. Its resonant mahogany body is harmonically rich, and the maple top is full of clarity, punch, and snap. The Slim Taper ’60s C profile neck is exceedingly comfortable, makes chording easy, and is perfect for pulling out buttery lead lines. Packed with Alnico ProBucker pickups, the Epiphone Les Paul Standard ’60s has the bite and swagger that made Les Pauls a staple of ’60s classic rock and blues. Premium appointments include kidney tuners, LockTone ABR Tune-o-matic bridge, and high-quality CTS electronics for an upscale Les Paul experience at a super-friendly price—available now from Sweetwater.

A universe of tone with ProBucker pickups

The ProBuckers on the Les Paul Standard ’60s feature Alnico II magnets — the same as sought-after vintage PAF humbuckers — for rich, warm tone with crystalline highs and a tight bottom. With a ProBucker-2 in the neck position and a (slightly overwound) ProBucker-3 in the bridge position, crank your gain, and you can do some serious damage. We’re talking legendary Les Paul — fat, snarling tone served up with exceptional sustain.

The Les Paul backstory

The Les Paul story started with an instrument called “The Log.” In the early 1940s, on a quest for an electric guitar that would sustain for days, Les Paul — the legendary guitarist and inventor — fashioned what may well have been the first solidbody guitar from a length of common 4" x 4" lumber. For appearances (and possibly playing comfort), Les sawed an Epiphone hollowbody in half and attached the two “wings” to either side of The Log. Les continued to develop the idea through a series of prototypes, ultimately resulting in the classic solidbody guitar we know and love.

With a Les Paul, you’re in good company

From rock to fusion and beyond, the Les Paul’s surly snarl has virtually defined attitude-laden overdriven guitar tone. Legendary guitarists such as Jimmy Page, Al Di Meola, Alex Lifeson, Slash, and countless others have forged their signature sounds with a sunburst Les Paul. Epiphone now gives you the opportunity to experience that one-of-a-kind tone and look at an amazingly affordable price with the Les Paul Standard ’60s. What’s more, the Standard ’60s comes with Epiphone’s limited lifetime warranty and is backed by Gibson’s 24/7/365 customer service — so you know you’re making a solid investment.

Epiphone Les Paul Standard ’60s Features:

  • Mahogany neck with SlimTaper 60s C profile

Plays well out of the box

Every guitar is different, even guitars of the same make and model. The one I bought played well right out of the box.

Although I did find some imperfection, I scrutinized the guitar under the microscope, so I am still giving it 5 stars. See my tech review video, attached.

This is a fantastic guitar for the money.

Beautiful guitar

Bought this guitar because of the appearance. Haven't played in 42 years but when it arrived I was in awe of how much better in person it looks than in the pictures. It was packaged great and arrived perfect.

Such an amazing bargain!!!

I'm really a novice at playing, I've owned several over the years, mostly strats, currently have a Jackson Dinky in the stable with this one. They are such different animals! This is my first Les Paul and it has exceeded my expectations. Overall the sound is very well rounded and nice. Much fuller than my other, which is exactly what I was hoping for as the other guitar was more specific purpose. The pics that Paul (my Sweetwater rep) sent to me before shipping did not do this guitar justice. In person the color/finish/flame was FAR richer and more beautiful than the pics showed. I did not have a 'full set up' done and just went with the basic 55pt inspection. I wanted to do the initial setup myself (learning opportunity) and much to my surprise the intonation was absolutely SPOT ON. Action still just a ~HINT~ high, but so close that I may not even mess with it. I tune up almost every time I practice, I'm used to guitars that dont hold tune very well, after the first few practice sessions these grover tuners hold insanely well once the strings were broken in. I honestly can only think of one thing I would consider changing about this guitar, I might want to have the neck finished in satin or even bare wood, but the gloss on the neck isn't bad. just haven't had a guitar that was gloss in some time so still getting used to it.

If you were ever wanting to have an LP in your stable on a budget, these new "Inspired by Gibson" Epiphone Std's are the way to go. just great vintage vibe and put together wonderfully!! Might have to get a 50's Std to go along with it!

My Favorite Guitar I Own

This thing feels insanely high quality for the price. If you can't afford a Gibson, the Epiphone will get you 95% of the way there. The only difference is the label on the headstock and the pickups, which you could change to Gibsons later if you want. Even that being said, I'm pretty sure there are Epiphones on this site with Gibson pickups for a couple hundred dollars more. Either way, if you're in the market for a Les Paul and can't drop thousands, this guitar is a crazy good bang for your buck. Being primarily a Strat player most of my guitar life, I own a Fender HSS Strat and a PRS Silver Sky, and I wanted something a little heftier. The feel and tone of this Les Paul blew me away. Every piece of hardware on it feels superior to any of my other axes, and even the Gibson strings that come on it made me rethink my string game. Highly highly recommend!

Epiphone Les Paul 60s

Five Stars for this Beautiful Guitar and Five Stars for Sweetwater's Robert Williams and the Sweetwater family.
I cannot top any of the reviews showcased before me. This is a Fantastic Les Paul in looks and sounds. I am now looking for a nice Epiphone Hardshell case for it.
