Epiphone’s Version of Slash’s Touring Axe

Slash’s Les Paul collection is arguably as celebrated as the Guns N’ Roses axeman himself. The Epiphone Slash Les Paul Standard is Epi’s version of one of the legendary guitarist’s favorite touring instruments. This solidbody electric guitar is a Les Paul aficionado’s dream with enough Gibson-inspired features to fill a snake pit and a real-world price tag that’s guaranteed to put a dog-eat-dog sly smile on your face. The Slash Les Paul Standard boasts classic maple-on-mahogany construction, which includes a figured maple veneer top that’s guaranteed to turn heads. This exquisite rock machine features a comfortable Slash-custom C-shape neck and an easy-playing Indian laurel fingerboard with 22 medium-jumbo frets along with a set of vintage-voiced Custom ProBucker pickups, high-quality wiring, and Epiphone strap locks. The Epi Slash Les Paul Standard also includes color-coordinated hardware, Slash’s “Skully” signature drawing on the back of the headstock, a truss rod cover with a facsimile of Slash’s signature, and a custom hardshell case.

Classic construction with Slash’s personal touches

The Epi Slash Les Paul Standard conjures the vibe of the influential Gibson guitars Slash has used during his career. It includes a mahogany body, a AAA flame maple veneer top, and a super-comfortable Slash Custom C-shape neck. The electronics consist of Epiphone Custom ProBucker pickups along with CTS potentiometers with Orange Drop capacitors. You also get color-coordinated hardware components, Slash’s “Skully” signature drawing on the back of the headstock, and a truss rod cover with a facsimile of Slash’s signature. Guitarists here at Sweetwater are genuine Les Paul connoisseurs, and they love the sound, look, and feel of this guitar.

Epiphone’s acclaimed ProBucker pickups

The key ingredient to the Les Paul’s early success was the PAF humbucking pickups. The first of their kind to hit the mainstream, the Patent Applied For humbuckers defined the sound of a generation with their fat tone and clear response. With the price of vintage PAFs skyrocketing, Epiphone set out to create their own PAF-style pickup. Thus, the ProBucker humbucking pickup was born. Inspired by the original PAF sound, these pickups feed your appetite with full, overwound tones and incredible clarity. When you plug the Epiphone Slash Les Paul Standard into your favorite British-style amplifier, you’ll instantly recognize the top-hatted one’s signature Les Paul punch.

Slash: hard-rock royalty

Slash is renowned as one of the greatest guitarists in rock ’n’ roll history. In the waning years of the 1980s, Slash’s bluesy, scorched-earth licks brought rock guitar to its knees, forewarning big changes on the horizon. While many of his peers dominated MTV with flamboyant super axes and hyper-processed guitar tones, Slash simply plugged a Les Paul into a cranked British stack, wailed away, and left an indelible mark in music history. The Epiphone Slash Les Paul Standard culls many features from his high-end Gibson signature models, providing you with a Slash-inspired solidbody electric guitar that won’t drain your wallet.

Epiphone Slash Les Paul Standard Features:

  • Resonant mahogany body exhibits incredible warmth and sustain
  • AAA figured maple veneer top ensures a head-turning look
  • Laurel-capped Slash-custom C-shape neck supplies unbelievable playability
  • Custom ProBucker humbucking pickups feed your appetite with old-school PAF tones
  • CTS potentiometers with Orange Drop capacitors ensure spot-on vintage tone
  • Epiphone strap locks safeguard against axe droppage
  • Boasts color-coordinated hardware, Slash’s “Skully” signature drawing on the back of the headstock, and a truss rod cover with a facsimile of Slash’s signature
  • Includes a custom hardshell case

Epiphone Slash Appetite Les Paul

The guitar works great, reasonably priced, Tuning is very stable, Great finish on the body, only downside for me is the jack is a little tough to plug in; But I would definitely recommend this guitar for beginners and pros.

Top quality guitar

The inspired by Gibson collection has really made Epiphone a serious player in the $ market. This is the third Epiphone I have bought in the last year and these are far superior to the Epiphones of past years,I had 2 in the past & got rid of both. Some youtubers fussed about the pickups when this Slash collection was announced. Without even trying out the guitar they made their judgment. My opinion is the pups are the best part of this guitar. They were developed at Gibson with Slash's approval and Epiphone has done a great job of reproducing Gibson's design. I have guitars with Gibson 490 & 498 pups & one with Duncan 59s. I like these pups better then the 490s & they are just as good as the Duncans. I am mostly a clean player and these pups sound great, turn the gain up & they sing. I have tried them in practice amps and high quality tube amps & they deliver through both. The pots & caps let me tapper volume & tone so smoothly it's easy to dial in great sounds. The neck is one of the most comfortable I have played. No QC issues. I just changed strings & conditioned the fretboard & the guitar was ready to play. It comes with a hardshell case which is rare these days. A shout out to Sweetwater for their double boxing & packing. The last guitar I ordered from another dealer was not double boxed or packaged well & I was deliver a tore up box with a broken headstock on the guitar. I believe the inspired by Gibson collection is a great value. It's not a Gibson but it gets you really close.

Excellent les paul

I own a few les paul guitars, some epiphone and some Gibson.
All of the epis required a good amount of set up on my part filing fret ends etc.
This one however was in ready to play condition straight out of the box.
Minus a string change and a quick polishing of the frets and fretboard conditioner.
Fit and finish is the best I have seen in a very long time.
Pickups have a great midrange snarl and growl
And the guitar cleans up better than anything I have ever played.
The pots are incredibly responsive.
Maybe I just got lucky or maybe epiphone is putting more effort into quality control.
Stretch the strings and it holds tune and intonation beautifully.
Monster sustain and plays fast for a les paul.
Service was excellent.
Always is at Sweetwater or at least that has been my experience.
If you like a more traditional les paul thick neck and heavy, this is an excellent choice.
I will say my 50's epiphone les paul standard is right there with it and maybe even sounds a little better.
But that required a major set up to get it right.
This Slash model required little to no effort and was playing like a dream.
I feel like I truly got my monies worth.
This guitar was very well thought out by epiphone and built by someone in that factory who really
Takes pride in what they do. While $800 may seem inexpensive compared to the $3000+
Gibson version, it's still a lot of money for most of us . That being said this guitar lacks for nothing
And ticks all the boxes
And is absolutely worth every penny.
My Gibson les Paul's are great and I love them.
But if epiphone can make an instrument of this caliber and quality for $800.00 my days of working overtime to pay for the Gibson Paul's
Are over.
I hope anyone reading this will be as happy with theirs as I am with mine. But like I said Epiphone quality control
Has burnt me in the past
But they seem to be recommited to it.
Get one before the prices go up. Because Epiphone is starting to get crazy with their prices and it will only get worse .

beyond my expectations

I often never do reviews and find most are written during the initial love affair. I own several Gibson Les Pauls, and Epiphones. This the first epi I have played that sounds and feels exactly as a Gibson. Played the Gibson Slash back to back...identical In sound and feel. I have never ever played another epi that would do that. One of the best les paul guitars I've ever played including r8 and r9 Gibson. This thing is voiced like a Gibson...unlike other epi stuff I've played. It's dead on with the Gibson Slash...blows my mind.
