Value-packed Tele with Vintage Vibe

The Squier Classic Vibe '50s Telecaster celebrates one of the world's most instantly recognizable guitars, with added modern features. Boasting a pine body with a classic finish, the Classic Vibe '50s Telecaster harkens back to the original "black guard" Teles that started it all, while two Fender-designed alnico single-coil pickups serve up legendary Tele twang. Check out this Squier Classic Vibe '50s Telecaster and tap into iconic Telecaster sound at an affordable price.

Original "black guard" experience

Certain electric guitars are credited with shaping modern music, and the 1950s Fender "black guard" Telecaster may be the most iconic of them all. With this Squier Classic Vibe '50s Telecaster, you can have a similar vintage tone and look at a price that any guitarist can afford. From the 3-saddle string-through-body bridge and vintage-style tuners to the single-ply black pickguard, this Tele is a smooth performer with unmistakable '50s vibe.

Custom set of alnico single-coil pickups

The discerning guitarists at Sweetwater know that to get a real vintage sound from a guitar, you need to start with great pickups. The Fender-designed alnico single-coil Tele pickups in the Squier Classic Vibe '50s Telecaster nail those classic tones. You'll love the clear, punchy sounds, which are perfect for playing country, blues, jazz, rock, or pop. Sonically (and visually), these pickups extend the vintage appeal of this guitar.

Vintage appointments with modern playability

The black pickguard, alnico pickups, 3-saddle bridge, and vintage tuning keys cover the vintage side of things. But the 9.5" fingerboard radius gives you a comfortable playing surface that allows for wider string bends than the 7.25" radius of vintage guitars. While being rounded enough for comfortable chording, this radius is perfect for double-stop bends, wide vibrato, and even bends over a whole step. And the modern C-shaped neck feels just right, smoothing the way for fleet-fingered fretting.

Squier Classic Vibe '50s Telecaster Features:

  • Pine body; gloss polyurethane finish
  • Maple neck, "C" profile
  • Maple fingerboard, 9.5" radius, dot inlays
  • 25.5" scale length, 21 Narrow Tall frets
  • Fender-designed alnico single-coil bridge and neck pickups
  • 3-way pickup selector; master Volume and Tone controls
  • 3-saddle string-through-body bridge
  • 1.65" nut
  • Vintage-style tuners

Great Standard Telecaster

I had borrowed a friend's Telecaster that he had modded. Pretty sure it had Duncan Quarter Pounder pickups installed and he had put a 4-way switch in it. For my birthday I decided to dive back into the guitar market and bought a floor model they had in white blonde. The butterscotch is nice, but I liked the Robin Zander "Cheap Trick at Budokan" look better than the Springsteen look. A bit less common. Upon opening, I did a side-by-side with my friend's and found that the pickups in the Squier had more tone range. The neck is dark, but allows for those nice, deep Tele rhythm and lead tones, and the bridge is as bright as you'd want from a Telecaster. The middle position is the sweet spot for me, though. Under the hood, the body is routed so you can put a humbucker in the neck. Electonics are fine, but these are stocked with the mini alpha pots (250K).

The neck feels great and plays great. I am okay with gloss necks, as my first guitar was a MIJ Squier also with a similarly finished neck. Tuners work well, and I feel no need to change the classic style.

I knew upon buying this, that I wanted a 4-way switch so I also decided to upgrade the pots to CTS. There are probably some style of these full size pots that would fit the Squier knobs, but I ended up buying Fender parts to replace the knobs and jack plate. I also rewired everything (keeping the pickups, as I love the sound), got a new jack. I did have to drill out the hole in the jack cup to accomodate the new jack, but it didn't hurt my feelings. Bought an Oak-Grigsby 4-way switch and looked up a diagram.

Finally, the body color is beautiful, and almost gives off pink hues. I decided to get a pearloid pink pickguard and a matching strap from Brivatta, and added Schaler chrome strap locks because I'm originally a metal dude from the 80s. It should be said that I picked the heaviest body, which came in almost 10 lbs. These pine bodies make the guitar a Hoss, but it's not a big deal for me, since I am also a bass player.

If I found it necessary, I would buy another in butterscotch and mod it into a Keith Richards style guitar, tuned to G, and add a humbucker in the neck. These guitars are great as is, but could be modded and still less expensive than a MIM Telecaster. Fantastic value!

Unexpected

This is my first Telecaster, I bought this as kind of an experimental thing. I didn't expect to like this guitar as much as I do. It's a Tele so it's simple, that's a huge part of its charm. It's easy to play, and it's looks are much better than can be captured with a camera. For the price I think this guitar is an outstanding value. The only down side (and it's a small one) this thing is a bit heavy, but the positives far outweigh that one negative. Thanks again Cody Kraus and Sweetwater I am very happy with this purchase!

Amazing Telecaster

So, like many folks who go into buying a squire telecaster, the idea was have a really good foundational guitar to mod.
To be honest a $ guitar is a little steep for a guitar with the intention of basically changing the guts and modding the accessories.

But! Like so many folks who have bought the the squire classic vibe, right out of the box I was impressed.
Like, I could not believe it, impressed.

In what weird whacky universe are we living in where squire is making the best base model telecasters ever.

Truly, no lie, from top to bottom, this guitars slaps, it hits different, it's a bop, it's a vibe.

It amazing. Hardware - perfect, color - perfect, pickups - perfect. Neck - perfect, fretboard - perfect (friggin' rolled frets).

I say all this with 3 caveats:

1. Do your research on the specs. One ex is that some players do not like is the neck shape. It's a little thin for some. I consider it to be a very fast mobile neck, but some people like big ol' boatnecks.

2. Regardless where you buy it from, whether it be from Sweetwater, reverb, new or used, ASK FOR THE WEIGHT.

Luckily, Sweetwater has this increíble feature on their website where they have the weight of the available spread of models.
Very cool.
But yes, some people have received classic vibes that are quite heavy. Mine is about 7.5 lbs which is perfectly normal tele weight in my estimation. But anything past 8.25- 8.5 lbs and it may be uncomfortable for some.

3. The classic vibe is a bit on the glossy side. Nothing too crazy but she shines.

So all the said, the only "mod" (if you could call it that) that I have done to my squire classic vibe is change the knobs to fender amp knobs. It's literally just because I think it looks cool. Other than that my mod game screeched to a halt with this one. It really is a pretty dope guitar right out of the box, everything that I wanted to change was already perfect.

Honestly it's to the point where I'm afraid to change anything because I don't want to mess up how great it plays and sounds.

Anyways, yada yada yada. The hype is real. Stop procrastinating, get the classic vibe, save some cash, get a fuzz or something and shred away.

Exceeded Expectations!

Even though the main box had a couple of smaller holes from shipping, the guitar arrived in a perfect condition, very well packaged, in tune and setup well out of the box. I could start playing as soon as she was out.
The guitar itself exceeded my expectations. The switch and knobs felt solid. It was a display version but, honestly, I couldn't see any imperfections mentioned in the description with my naked eyes. Glad I gave Squire the chance. No QC concerns.
Love how sweet the pine body sounds. Very resonant guitar that captures the 50s Tele spirit as it meant to do.
Overall, very happy with the guitar and service, appreciate answers from the Sales Engineer to all my questions.
The guitar and Sweetwater really exceeded my expectations in all sorts of ways! I certainly feel very good about buying an instrument again from them in the future.

The best entry level Telecaster

I owned a Fender Player Tele and whether I got a bad one or not it did not have the same bright articulate Tele twang that this Indonesian made Classic Vibe has. Its curious most You Tube videos demo CV's with clean tones while Player demos are mostly with a lot of dirt thrown at it because of the hotter pickups. Anyways I couldn't be happier with the tones. Even the neck pickup is warm and pleasing to my ears. The neck is fantastic. Its nicely rounded and the fret edges are as smooth as any Pro or Ultra Models I've owned or held. Its better than my MIM Strat and arguably even better than my American Pro Tele Deluxe. Pretty shocking for a sub $ guitar. Neck doesn't feel too skinny to me. The frets and hardware are probably not as durable as a US made Fender but they all seem to work fine and can be upgraded as needed. I got lucky and got one under 8 lbs. Can a Squier CV be a lifetime guitar? Certainly. If it sounds good then it is good.
