Taylor's Distinctive Grand Auditorium

The Taylor 114ce acoustic-electric guitar is a terrific choice for beginning or seasoned players. You'll find the 114ce's maple neck extremely comfortable and playable, while its solid Sitka spruce and layered walnut tonewood combination provides you with the perfect balance of warmth and sparkle. On top of that, the onboard ES2 electronics translate your true acoustic tone when playing plugged-in. Sweetwater has been selling Taylor guitars for quite some time, and we're sure you'll appreciate the warm, lively tone of the Taylor 114ce acoustic-electric guitar.

Grand Auditorium body style

Taylor's beloved Grand Auditorium body style, featured on the 114ce, employs the width and depth of the dreadnought. But its narrower waist gives Grand Auditorium-bodied acoustic guitars a sleeker look with remarkable high-end response — helping to sharpen the definition of each note. And the comfort of this body style is a huge reason the 114ce is a popular instrument for live performance. From fingerpicking to strumming, the 114ce Grand Auditorium is a great choice for nearly every playing style.

Unique tonewoods

The tonewoods chosen for the 114ce offer detailed tone, strong projection, and durability. The layered walnut back and sides offer rigid construction that aids in the guitar's pronounced tone and helps the instrument remain stable under fluctuating climate changes and rough handling. The combination of maple and ebony on the neck ensures a ringing midrange with plenty of top-end detail. And the solid Sitka spruce top is one of the most popular wood choices for a powerful tone that is well balanced across the frequency range.

Taylor's Expression System 2

Taylor's Expression System 2 uses a proprietary pickup behind the saddle. The pickup's three individually calibrated, precisely positioned piezo-electric sensors respond organically to the instrument's acoustic energy as it's transferred through the saddle. In concert with Taylor's custom-designed preamp, the result is a natural acoustic sound with incredible dynamic range and responsiveness. Sweetwater's guitar gurus are mightily impressed with Taylor's Expression System 2.

Great guitar

Good sound and accomadations

Amazing Sound

This is my first Taylor guitar and I have to say that it's amazing. Well built, deep and clear tone, it gives you the impression that you're playing a much more expensive professional guitar. The upgraded electronics works well trough amplifier, uncompromising the natural tone. Great job Taylor.

One of the Best guitars made.

My 114CE was made in November, 2000, I purchased it new in November of 2008. It has a layered Sapele back & sides (new ones are layered Walnut) and a Sika Spruce top, ES1 electronics. (New ones have ES2 electronics which are better). The 1st chord I played on this guitar had me sold with it's tone. It is very easy to play, looks & sounds great. Intonation is near perfect. The top was a bright, almost white color when new, but has aged to a honey brown over the years and shows the wood grain. It also "Played in" and continues to sound better every year. I use Elixir Nano Web lights & guitar stays in tune better then any guitar I own. One thing I can say about Taylor, is the craftmanship on this model is as good as their high end models. This guitar is a work horse, very sturdy and stable. I own several other acoustics that might be a little prettier but none sound or play as good as the Taylor. If you are looking for a "Lifetime Guitar" this is it. There are 5 other guitar players in my family, most own Martins, but they all reach for my Taylor when we get together & jam. It is not hype, it's a Taylor!

Pleasantly surprised

This is really a review for a specific customer. My story: played 62 years. Started as an "acoustic purist;" then much performance as electric guitarist in hot gospel & jazz; came to DISLIKE playing ANY acoustic. Finally hounded by fam friends and band members to get an acoustic. Bought this demo for the price and the Taylor neck. Spent a week successfully setting it up for 10-46 strings.Ok, would I prefer better tone woods —yes. But I can make this work. It's now intonates correctly with the light strings and lowered action. I don't even believe that's even possible with the majority of acoustic guitars no matter how expensive. The Taylor neck and electronics are completely Ok… good, better than I expected. Is it one of my beloved Strats or Teles? No, but it works for a long time electric guitarist who really hasn't preferred playing acoustic guitars for 40+ years. I could take it onstage. Now maybe my family will stop hounding me. Thank you, Taylor.

Can't go rong

I have owned a Bread Love and a Martin OX or DX series. Way way much happier. I play for a small church with just a electric drums and pian. I plug into to the system without a amp or monitor. I do struggle hearing me now as I did with my Martin. My only regret is not getting one sooner.i have had reservations about Taylor because they don't come with a built in tuner. But after my live performance it is worth the set back.the 4 star is because no built in tuner
