Channel the Spirit of the ’60s

Hearkening back to 1960s-era Les Pauls, the Epiphone Les Paul Standard ’60s brims with vintage character and legendary rock ‘n’ roll vibe. Its resonant mahogany body is harmonically rich, and the maple top is full of clarity, punch, and snap. The Slim Taper ’60s C profile neck is exceedingly comfortable, makes chording easy, and is perfect for pulling out buttery lead lines. Packed with Alnico ProBucker pickups, the Epiphone Les Paul Standard ’60s has the bite and swagger that made Les Pauls a staple of ’60s classic rock and blues. Premium appointments include kidney tuners, LockTone ABR Tune-o-matic bridge, and high-quality CTS electronics for an upscale Les Paul experience at a super-friendly price—available now from Sweetwater.

A universe of tone with ProBucker pickups

The ProBuckers on the Les Paul Standard ’60s feature Alnico II magnets — the same as sought-after vintage PAF humbuckers — for rich, warm tone with crystalline highs and a tight bottom. With a ProBucker-2 in the neck position and a (slightly overwound) ProBucker-3 in the bridge position, crank your gain, and you can do some serious damage. We’re talking legendary Les Paul — fat, snarling tone served up with exceptional sustain.

The Les Paul backstory

The Les Paul story started with an instrument called “The Log.” In the early 1940s, on a quest for an electric guitar that would sustain for days, Les Paul — the legendary guitarist and inventor — fashioned what may well have been the first solidbody guitar from a length of common 4" x 4" lumber. For appearances (and possibly playing comfort), Les sawed an Epiphone hollowbody in half and attached the two “wings” to either side of The Log. Les continued to develop the idea through a series of prototypes, ultimately resulting in the classic solidbody guitar we know and love.

With a Les Paul, you’re in good company

From rock to fusion and beyond, the Les Paul’s surly snarl has virtually defined attitude-laden overdriven guitar tone. Legendary guitarists such as Jimmy Page, Al Di Meola, Alex Lifeson, Slash, and countless others have forged their signature sounds with a sunburst Les Paul. Epiphone now gives you the opportunity to experience that one-of-a-kind tone and look at an amazingly affordable price with the Les Paul Standard ’60s. What’s more, the Standard ’60s comes with Epiphone’s limited lifetime warranty and is backed by Gibson’s 24/7/365 customer service — so you know you’re making a solid investment.

Epiphone Les Paul Standard ’60s Features:

  • Captures the spirit of 1960s-era Les Pauls
  • Warm and resonant mahogany body with a bright, punchy maple cap
  • Mahogany neck with SlimTaper 60s C profile
  • 2 ProBucker humbucking pickups

The Real Deal!

I've been playing for over 30 years. I've had extremely expensive guitars and I've had cheap homemade guitars. These new epiphones are amazing! They have a carved Maple top, with a flamed veneer. They also have 500k CTS pots and a CTS selector. Epiphone probucker pickups sound like genuine Gibson pickups. I honestly would put my guitar up against any Gibson Les Paul. But the most important thing is that the headstock angle and the scarf joint make the neck considerably stronger than any Gibson Les Paul! This is simple physics. However, I do understand some people MUST pay $ more for a name on the headstock.. It's your choice. I realized long ago that the tool doesn't make the man, it's his skill with the tool that speaks truth.

Gorgeous in every way!

I kind of closed my eyes and hoped I made a decent choice. Sure enough, when this guitar arrived, it was everything I hoped. No gallery pictures to browse and pick the "perfect one", but rather got what I could, while I could. Normally I don't consider myself a lucky person, but I think I might have gotten lucky with this pick! The Iced Tea finish is just subtle and soft. Really brings out the flamed maple top. The neck is just fantastic. has a slim taper to it and comfortable in my hands. The sounds of those ProBuckers... I couldn't believe it. So much tonal bliss. The fit and finish are amazing, as well. I've always been a single coil fan, and just last year bought an American Strat from Sweetwater. I'm waiting for my Blues Jr amp to arrive so I have a reason to plug that guitar in again. This LP just begs to have all the attention! If you want a Les Paul but can't afford the Gibsons, do yourself a favor and pick up one of these Epiphones. They really got themselves a winner with this new series!

Beautiful Guitar

Giving it a 4 star because although it is a beautiful guitar and sounds great, I have had issues with the bridge. A bent screw on one of the saddles was making one string impossible to intonate. Sweetwater did a good job contacting Gibson to get a replacement bridge sent to me, however the replacement bridge that was sent was worse off than the original.
